Bret Michaels Stroke

Can I just say how much I love Bret Michaels!?!?  I have to be honest, though.  Before The Celebrity Apprentice aired, I had never even heard of Bret Michaels.  My friends watched Rock of Love and would talk about how gorgeous they thought he was, but I didn’t know one thing about him.

I started watching The Celebrity Apprentice and quickly fell in love with Bret!  His long, shiny blonde hair and his piercing eyes definitely draw me in to him.  Quickly I realized that his is the “sweet bad boy.”  He wears the rocker image, but you can tell what a great heart he has and how passionate he is about life and his charity, as he tries to raise money for diabetes research.

It was devastating to hear that Bret suffered a hemorrhage in the brain a couple of weeks ago, but he seemed to be making a quick recovery, even planning to go back on the road.  Now, Bret has suffered a warning stroke, according to his doctors.  As his fans can all attest, we know he will make a full recovery from this as well.  Nothing can keep Bret down!

With the season finale of The Celebrity Apprentice airing LIVE this Sunday, we all hope that Bret will be able to attend.  Clearly he wants to be there, but his doctors are fighting him on this issue.  Holly Peete Robinson has done a great job, and her charity for autism is definitely well deserving of the money, how can we not pull for Bret to win this one?   My pick and my money is going to Bret to win The Celebrity Apprentice, and not because of his health set backs, but because of his drive, his creativity, and his passion.

Bret…we all wish you well and will continue supporting you as you make a full recovery!  Your fans at Top Trendsetter are glad you are continuing to sport your famous bandanas and sport your own style…nothing gets in your way!

Miss USA Top 10 – Evening Gowns

As I watched the evening gown competition for the Miss USA 2010 competition I couldn’t help but get my feelings out on each of the contestants:

Miss Tennessee:  She is an all around perfect contestant and has won me over for my 1st choice!

Miss Maine:  She is completely out of her element.  I honestly don’t know how she made it into the top 10.  She clearly has no confidence.

Miss Alabama: Her pictures are all gorgeous, but her hair has ruined her chances of winning tonight.  She needs to keep her hair straight…it’s much more becoming on her!

Miss Michigan: She is trying too hard in this competition.  She gets great scores, but poor thing tripped in her evening gown!

Miss Oklahoma: She has a personality that seems “real.”  I bet she has a lot of followers.  Her dress was just ok in my opinion.  Joan and Melissa loved it, but I thought it looked too old for her age.  Am I starting to sound like the judges on American Idol?  Dress your age!

Miss Missouri: Her dress was just plain AWFUL!  There is NO way around it!  It was all chiffon, but from top to bottom it was a COMPLETE MESS!  I loved the bottom bright yellow and it looked great against her skin color.  The top did NOTHING for her and was in discord from the bottom of the dress.  Get a stylist!

Miss California:  Looks great, but her dress seemed a little too tight.  Maybe she had too much to eat at the Miss USA pajama brunch?  No, seriously, though, she is still a top contestant.

Miss Virginia:  A bun in your hair?  Are you 80?  It didn’t look elegant, which is what I bet she was going for…it just looked old!

Miss Colorado:  She looked very sophisticated and elegant.  The pony tail in her hair helped contribute to her sophisticated look.

And now for the top 5……are my opinions in line with the judges????

Miss USA Pageant 2010

So I am sitting here watching Miss USA 2010, wishing I was in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino for the Miss USA 2010 Pageant.  I love watching the introduction of the contestants and picking my favorites.  The first girl to catch my eye was Miss California, Nicole Michele Johnson.  Besides her obvious beauty, she has confidence and poise.  In my ranking of my top 5 girls she is definitely number 1.  A close second is Miss Tennessee, Tucker Perry.

I must say, though, I was distracted from the competition when Joan & Melissa Rivers appeared giving their opinions of the girls and their opinions of what the show was going to be like.  They were introduced as “fashion icons.”  Really???  How old is Joan Rivers?  And her daughter Melissa?  She only appears on shows as a “fashion icon & expert” because of her mom.  There are MUCH better people out there to comment on the fashion aspect of the show.

As I continued watching, I became even more appalled at the way Joan was talking.  The Miss USA pageant is a competition that so many young girls watch and they dream about becoming Miss USA.  I know I did…if only I had longer legs!  I would be appalled if I had a daughter watching this show.  Joan’s language is NOT appropriate for Miss USA.  Here is a direct quote from Joan:  Did you know that they wanted me to literally be in the swimsuit competition?  But “all the men in the audience would have gone home and fantasized about having sex with their own wives.”  Does anyone really think that is funny?  Is that setting an example for all the young kids out there watching the show?   Donald Trump made an example of Carrie Prejean, which I thought was very respectable.  From watching the Celebrity Apprentice, I know he is a fan of Joan Rivers, but seriously?  Maybe it’s time for her to retire from this business.  She only reaches audiences of a certain age!

On another note…Curtis Stone.  I personally love Curtis Stone and was so excited to see him host the show tonight.  But, does anyone think it’s strange that an Aussie is hosting Miss USA?  It doesn’t bother me at all, but I thought it was a bit ironic.  Mr. Trump…can we take this to mean that Curtis wins the Celebrity Apprentice, or is it all a big coincidence?

All in all I am still excited to watch the show and see what happens.  My 2 favs have just made it into the top 10…I always pick the winners!  We’ll have to wait and see what happens next…stay tuned!

Trendy Salon of the Month

Autumn beautyThe other day I ventured to Jump Jive & Wail Salon, in Frisco, TX.  I decided it was time for a fun, summery hair style, and having been to the salon once before, I knew they could handle the task of my picky taste.  Stephanie was my stylist and she was cute, trendy, sweet, and fun.  She asked me what I was looking for in my “new ‘do” and then offered me a drink…not just water or a soft drink, but beer and wine are on the table at this trendy salon!  (They sure know how to pamper a girl after a long day of work!)  My highlights, lowlights, cut, & style took just short of three hours, although it didn’t seem near that long.  I had my fair share of magazines to choose from, great conversation with everyone in the salon, and simply the joy of taking time for myself to relax and pamper.

Finally it was time for the big reveal.  Normally when I leave a salon, I have to wait until I get home to decide if I like what was done.  I looked in the mirror and new immediately!  Stephanie blended the colors perfectly and the tint of color was a 100% match for my hair.  The change to my color and cut is subtle, yet noticeable, which is what I was looking for.  I have received many compliments from family & friends, people in the mall, at work, etc.  I will definitely head back over to Jump Jive & Wail in the future and recommend Stephanie to my friends and family.

With the pink salon chairs, original brick walls, 50’s décor, and trendy staff, Jump Jive & Wail definitely gets my vote as “Top Trendsetter’s Trendy Salon of the Month.”

Trendy Tips from Megan

TrendystylesYou read about them in the magazines and you see them on TV.  You love the new trends, but you just don’t know where to start.  Many of you may have your own fashion sense and ideas…more power to you!  Not everyone, though, has the inherent ability to make trendy statements, and that’s ok.  Here are some surefire ways to make sure you stay trendy, no matter what your style…

Think about your favorite TV show or movie and the styles the actors/actresses portray in those shows.  Go online and find pictures of styles you like.  Then, look in your closet or take a trip to the mall and transform that style into your own.  More than likely you aren’t strictly a Serena Van Der Woodsen or a Blair Waldorf.  Take your favorite style elements from both and add your own flare.

On a budget?  Look in your closet and mix and match items you already have.  Take a pair of pants, leggings, shorts (you get the idea) and pair them with a solid colored shirt.  Accessorize with bright, colorful shoes & jewelry.  In a matter of minutes, you have a new outfit and you haven’t spent a dime.   Being trendy does not mean dishing out a lot of moolah.  Trendiness is all about being confident in yourself, your style, and your attitude.

Use your resources and don’t be afraid to go out on a limb.  If you are unsure about a style you put together, ask your friends.  They’ll be honest with you.  If the style doesn’t work, no big deal…add an accessory, change the shirt, add a belt…just try different combinations.  Most importantly, make sure you are trying a trend/style that fits your personality and body type.

No matter what, you should exude confidence in yourself, your style, and your attitude.  Once you have accomplished this, then and only then will you be a Top Trendsetter.  It’s all about YOU.

Texas’ Next Top Designer

JennaandBrittanyOn May 21, Texas’ Next Top Designer held a gala at LFT in Victory Park to introduce the top 10 finalists and announce the 2009 winner.  Sew Sister, designed by Austin’s Megan Summerville, was announced as the winner and received a prize package worth $40,000 for her lingerie line.

While the night was all about the designers’ designs and the models, Top Trendsetter found two diamonds in the rough, who we are sure will be up and coming designers in the years to come.  Jenna Cruciani, in a purple BCBG ruffle dress, and Brittany Kile, in blue mini with a Betsey Johnson pump, are seniors in the Dallas area who are both enrolled in FIDM San Diego for fashion design.  In talking to these girls, they have an eye and a passion for fashion.  Jenna’s style is more classic, while Brittany likes to add a little funk with her shoes and accessories.  Keep their names in your little black book, as they are sure to design some big hits soon!

Here are Top Trendsetter’s picks for the night in various categories:
Vintage: House of Dang by Doug Voisin & Andrew Bayer
Classic:  Ann Hoang by Ann Hoang
Kids:      Sadie loves Kiki by Trish Hurless
Simple & Sophisticated:  Ross Bennett by Ross Bennett
Accessories:  eddiejo jewelry by Eddie Nelson Barrett

Blue Mesa: exceptional food at reasonable prices

I recently ate at Blue Mesa, and the ambience, food, and experience were all far beyond my expectations.  I would reccomend it for a date night or a night out with friends.  They also have the best brunches!  But you better get there early, because the wait can be quite long.
