Trendy Salon of the Month

June 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Autumn beautyThe other day I ventured to Jump Jive & Wail Salon, in Frisco, TX.  I decided it was time for a fun, summery hair style, and having been to the salon once before, I knew they could handle the task of my picky taste.  Stephanie was my stylist and she was cute, trendy, sweet, and fun.  She asked me what I was looking for in my “new ‘do” and then offered me a drink…not just water or a soft drink, but beer and wine are on the table at this trendy salon!  (They sure know how to pamper a girl after a long day of work!)  My highlights, lowlights, cut, & style took just short of three hours, although it didn’t seem near that long.  I had my fair share of magazines to choose from, great conversation with everyone in the salon, and simply the joy of taking time for myself to relax and pamper.

Finally it was time for the big reveal.  Normally when I leave a salon, I have to wait until I get home to decide if I like what was done.  I looked in the mirror and new immediately!  Stephanie blended the colors perfectly and the tint of color was a 100% match for my hair.  The change to my color and cut is subtle, yet noticeable, which is what I was looking for.  I have received many compliments from family & friends, people in the mall, at work, etc.  I will definitely head back over to Jump Jive & Wail in the future and recommend Stephanie to my friends and family.

With the pink salon chairs, original brick walls, 50’s décor, and trendy staff, Jump Jive & Wail definitely gets my vote as “Top Trendsetter’s Trendy Salon of the Month.”

Trendy Tips from Megan

TrendystylesYou read about them in the magazines and you see them on TV.  You love the new trends, but you just don’t know where to start.  Many of you may have your own fashion sense and ideas…more power to you!  Not everyone, though, has the inherent ability to make trendy statements, and that’s ok.  Here are some surefire ways to make sure you stay trendy, no matter what your style…

Think about your favorite TV show or movie and the styles the actors/actresses portray in those shows.  Go online and find pictures of styles you like.  Then, look in your closet or take a trip to the mall and transform that style into your own.  More than likely you aren’t strictly a Serena Van Der Woodsen or a Blair Waldorf.  Take your favorite style elements from both and add your own flare.

On a budget?  Look in your closet and mix and match items you already have.  Take a pair of pants, leggings, shorts (you get the idea) and pair them with a solid colored shirt.  Accessorize with bright, colorful shoes & jewelry.  In a matter of minutes, you have a new outfit and you haven’t spent a dime.   Being trendy does not mean dishing out a lot of moolah.  Trendiness is all about being confident in yourself, your style, and your attitude.

Use your resources and don’t be afraid to go out on a limb.  If you are unsure about a style you put together, ask your friends.  They’ll be honest with you.  If the style doesn’t work, no big deal…add an accessory, change the shirt, add a belt…just try different combinations.  Most importantly, make sure you are trying a trend/style that fits your personality and body type.

No matter what, you should exude confidence in yourself, your style, and your attitude.  Once you have accomplished this, then and only then will you be a Top Trendsetter.  It’s all about YOU.

Texas’ Next Top Designer

May 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

JennaandBrittanyOn May 21, Texas’ Next Top Designer held a gala at LFT in Victory Park to introduce the top 10 finalists and announce the 2009 winner.  Sew Sister, designed by Austin’s Megan Summerville, was announced as the winner and received a prize package worth $40,000 for her lingerie line.

While the night was all about the designers’ designs and the models, Top Trendsetter found two diamonds in the rough, who we are sure will be up and coming designers in the years to come.  Jenna Cruciani, in a purple BCBG ruffle dress, and Brittany Kile, in blue mini with a Betsey Johnson pump, are seniors in the Dallas area who are both enrolled in FIDM San Diego for fashion design.  In talking to these girls, they have an eye and a passion for fashion.  Jenna’s style is more classic, while Brittany likes to add a little funk with her shoes and accessories.  Keep their names in your little black book, as they are sure to design some big hits soon!

Here are Top Trendsetter’s picks for the night in various categories:
Vintage: House of Dang by Doug Voisin & Andrew Bayer
Classic:  Ann Hoang by Ann Hoang
Kids:      Sadie loves Kiki by Trish Hurless
Simple & Sophisticated:  Ross Bennett by Ross Bennett
Accessories:  eddiejo jewelry by Eddie Nelson Barrett

Blue Mesa: exceptional food at reasonable prices

April 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I recently ate at Blue Mesa, and the ambience, food, and experience were all far beyond my expectations.  I would reccomend it for a date night or a night out with friends.  They also have the best brunches!  But you better get there early, because the wait can be quite long.
