Combat Workout Staleness with a Boot Camp!

by Tiffany Krieg

This 2009 exercise trend can be found on most gym schedules, in neighborhood parks, and in empty parking lots.  Boot camp style workouts are everywhere and are helping the exercise novice to the ultra-fit to add spice to their routines.  So what makes this popular workout such a hit?

The functional approach of boot camp workouts takes you back to the basics with simple body resistance movements such as push-ups, arm curls, core stabilization, and squats.  Along with these strength training movements, the cardiovascular system is taxed with agility, jumping, and sprinting drills.  The body is challenged more during a 45-minute boot camp than jogging or cycling for the same amount time because of the added strength training benefit.

Another attractive benefit is the large number of calories burned during a boot camp workout.  According to a research study from the University of Wisconsin, led by John Porcari, Ph.D., and Hendrickson, the average exerciser will burn roughly 9.8 calories per minute, totaling almost 600 calories per hour!  This will definitely add a boost for weight loss clients.

Boot camp workouts also add variety to your typical routine.  Many classes are led outdoors which bring a sense of peace from being out in nature, and also allows room for the instructor to get creative.  Also, clients love the comradeship of helping each other get through the difficult hour together.

With this high calorie burning, functional workout, anyone can spice up a stale routine and get back to the basics with boot camp.  I encourage you to sign up for one in your area today!

Trendy Tips from Megan

TrendystylesYou read about them in the magazines and you see them on TV.  You love the new trends, but you just don’t know where to start.  Many of you may have your own fashion sense and ideas…more power to you!  Not everyone, though, has the inherent ability to make trendy statements, and that’s ok.  Here are some surefire ways to make sure you stay trendy, no matter what your style…

Think about your favorite TV show or movie and the styles the actors/actresses portray in those shows.  Go online and find pictures of styles you like.  Then, look in your closet or take a trip to the mall and transform that style into your own.  More than likely you aren’t strictly a Serena Van Der Woodsen or a Blair Waldorf.  Take your favorite style elements from both and add your own flare.

On a budget?  Look in your closet and mix and match items you already have.  Take a pair of pants, leggings, shorts (you get the idea) and pair them with a solid colored shirt.  Accessorize with bright, colorful shoes & jewelry.  In a matter of minutes, you have a new outfit and you haven’t spent a dime.   Being trendy does not mean dishing out a lot of moolah.  Trendiness is all about being confident in yourself, your style, and your attitude.

Use your resources and don’t be afraid to go out on a limb.  If you are unsure about a style you put together, ask your friends.  They’ll be honest with you.  If the style doesn’t work, no big deal…add an accessory, change the shirt, add a belt…just try different combinations.  Most importantly, make sure you are trying a trend/style that fits your personality and body type.

No matter what, you should exude confidence in yourself, your style, and your attitude.  Once you have accomplished this, then and only then will you be a Top Trendsetter.  It’s all about YOU.
