An Easy Way to Feel Functional…read CELEBRITY GOSSIP!

Why waste your precious time and money trying to keep up with who’s sleeping with who, or gettting canceled this week in Tinseltown?

Here’s what you NEED to know to stay connected, and still have time leftover to be fabulous! Plus, hearing how ridiculous the daily lives of celebs are will be as balancing as Zoloft !

Enjoy!

Chris Brown is receiving death threats! While everyone has talked smack about how he should get beat down for what he did, the L.A.P.D. are saying they believe these threats are the real deal!

The threats are coming from a group called, “Women’s Protection Action League.”   Authorities say the group could be a cover, but some of the threats include specifics like the assassin would be posing as a paparazzi!

Sources say that Chris is beyond paranoid, and won’t go anywhere without a minimum of 3 bodyguards. He also has 3-4 undercover guards that include a mixture of male and females. Don’t worry the chicks are just as tough as the guys.

No word if there are any leads on the threats.

In some related news, Rihanna was  subpoenaed to testify in his upcoming preliminary trial set for June 22nd.

American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert is on the cover of the new ‘Rolling Stone’ . The press was making this huge fuss about him “coming out,” while the rest were tearing him apart saying he was stealing the spotlight away from the real winner Chris Alan.

I was leaning more towards the second one until I actually read it myself. Adam commented in the article that he wasn’t hiding anything because he was “out” and very comfortable with it, and avoiding the topic had nothing to do with getting attention. Bottom line, he didn’t want his presence on the show to be about his “sexuality” but about his ability to sing.  American Idol IS a singing competition right?! Adam also mentioned he did get a record deal with 19 Entertainment (AI’s label). Whether he can be one of the few to beat the Idol record failure trend is yet to be seen.

In more American Idol news, the dust hasn’t even settled from season 8, and the auditions are starting again! If you think you’ve got what it takes make sure to check out the American Idol website to see when they are invading your town! Auditions are already under way!

Britney Spears is rumored to be dating her manager Jason Trawick. While her reps won’t confirm that, sources are saying that everyone (including her grits-making Pappy) approve of him.

In news they would confirm – Britney is returning to the states for 20 more shows for her “Circus” tour. Tickets for the added shows go on sale Friday, June 21st and begin in August.

The Black Eyed Peas new album “The E.N.D.” hit stores June 9th. This is their first album in 4 years and don’t worry it’s not their last! (E.N.D. stands for “Energy Never Dies”) Record execs guesstimate that first week record sales will exceed 350,000 copies.

Last but not least…If you can’t get enough of Johnny Depp you have something in common with Jerry Bruckheimer! Ha! Jerry said he wasn’t ready quite ready to let go of Johnny’s character Jack Sparrow from “Pirates of the Carribean,” so he approached him about making another movie and Johnny said YES! Details of a possible story line and other returning cast members was not disclosed. The next installment will be out in 2012.

Trendy Salon of the Month

June 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Autumn beautyThe other day I ventured to Jump Jive & Wail Salon, in Frisco, TX.  I decided it was time for a fun, summery hair style, and having been to the salon once before, I knew they could handle the task of my picky taste.  Stephanie was my stylist and she was cute, trendy, sweet, and fun.  She asked me what I was looking for in my “new ‘do” and then offered me a drink…not just water or a soft drink, but beer and wine are on the table at this trendy salon!  (They sure know how to pamper a girl after a long day of work!)  My highlights, lowlights, cut, & style took just short of three hours, although it didn’t seem near that long.  I had my fair share of magazines to choose from, great conversation with everyone in the salon, and simply the joy of taking time for myself to relax and pamper.

Finally it was time for the big reveal.  Normally when I leave a salon, I have to wait until I get home to decide if I like what was done.  I looked in the mirror and new immediately!  Stephanie blended the colors perfectly and the tint of color was a 100% match for my hair.  The change to my color and cut is subtle, yet noticeable, which is what I was looking for.  I have received many compliments from family & friends, people in the mall, at work, etc.  I will definitely head back over to Jump Jive & Wail in the future and recommend Stephanie to my friends and family.

With the pink salon chairs, original brick walls, 50’s décor, and trendy staff, Jump Jive & Wail definitely gets my vote as “Top Trendsetter’s Trendy Salon of the Month.”

The Life of a Fashion Designer by: Brian Gulash

fashiondesignerAn Article from Chicago Fashion Magazine

Forget what you know about the glamour, the clothes, and the sexy image. It takes a lot more than that to spit out the next Calvin Klein.

Take a look around, they are the people waiting your table at Café Luxe, and serving your morning coffee; they are what some have termed as “struggling artists” or FFDA (future fashion designers of America). Thanks to shows like, “The Cut” and “Project Runway,” we have seen an in-depth look at the competition, and the hard production challenges FFDA’s endure, but there’s a lot more to it than that.

First there’s the education: did you know there are several degrees in fashion, ranging from merchandising, marketing, design, production, and many more in between. There’s also varying levels of said studies from a certificate to a master’s degree. Now comes the question, “Which school?” and “How do I get in?”

There are hundreds of colleges that are devoted to the arts in the US alone, and now there are traditional universities that have tailored their curriculum to include the study of fashion. Many of these schools have an easy admissions process; others require a semi-professional portfolio before they will even consider you for entry. Once you’ve chosen a school and become admitted, the next question to arise is, “How are you going to pay for it?”

One would think a degree in fashion couldn’t be that expensive. Sure, if you’re studying to be a doctor or a lawyer, you could be paying up to $175,000 for an education. But a fashion degree? Well, here’s the scoop; the average cost for a degree in fashion is around $37,000, and the price could go up to the hundred thousands. Of course, it depends on the school and type of degree you’re pursuing, but you get the picture.

Besides education, a FFDA must find an internship, and try to make it in the industry, which isn’t easy. No matter how talented you are, in the end, it usually comes down to who you know. So, the next time you are flipping through the latest Vogue and you see Stella McCartney sipping champagne with Naomi Campbell, just think to yourself; it takes a lot to become that glamorous. Stay with me, when next time I sit down with a real life Chicago FFDA, and give you the inside scoop on her outlook.

Combat Workout Staleness with a Boot Camp!

June 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

bootcamper

by Tiffany Krieg

This 2009 exercise trend can be found on most gym schedules, in neighborhood parks, and in empty parking lots.  Boot camp style workouts are everywhere and are helping the exercise novice to the ultra-fit to add spice to their routines.  So what makes this popular workout such a hit?

The functional approach of boot camp workouts takes you back to the basics with simple body resistance movements such as push-ups, arm curls, core stabilization, and squats.  Along with these strength training movements, the cardiovascular system is taxed with agility, jumping, and sprinting drills.  The body is challenged more during a 45-minute boot camp than jogging or cycling for the same amount time because of the added strength training benefit.

Another attractive benefit is the large number of calories burned during a boot camp workout.  According to a research study from the University of Wisconsin, led by John Porcari, Ph.D., and Hendrickson, the average exerciser will burn roughly 9.8 calories per minute, totaling almost 600 calories per hour!  This will definitely add a boost for weight loss clients.

Boot camp workouts also add variety to your typical routine.  Many classes are led outdoors which bring a sense of peace from being out in nature, and also allows room for the instructor to get creative.  Also, clients love the comradeship of helping each other get through the difficult hour together.

With this high calorie burning, functional workout, anyone can spice up a stale routine and get back to the basics with boot camp.  I encourage you to sign up for one in your area today!

Trendy Tips from Megan

June 1, 2009 · 1 Comment

TrendystylesYou read about them in the magazines and you see them on TV.  You love the new trends, but you just don’t know where to start.  Many of you may have your own fashion sense and ideas…more power to you!  Not everyone, though, has the inherent ability to make trendy statements, and that’s ok.  Here are some surefire ways to make sure you stay trendy, no matter what your style…

Think about your favorite TV show or movie and the styles the actors/actresses portray in those shows.  Go online and find pictures of styles you like.  Then, look in your closet or take a trip to the mall and transform that style into your own.  More than likely you aren’t strictly a Serena Van Der Woodsen or a Blair Waldorf.  Take your favorite style elements from both and add your own flare.

On a budget?  Look in your closet and mix and match items you already have.  Take a pair of pants, leggings, shorts (you get the idea) and pair them with a solid colored shirt.  Accessorize with bright, colorful shoes & jewelry.  In a matter of minutes, you have a new outfit and you haven’t spent a dime.   Being trendy does not mean dishing out a lot of moolah.  Trendiness is all about being confident in yourself, your style, and your attitude.

Use your resources and don’t be afraid to go out on a limb.  If you are unsure about a style you put together, ask your friends.  They’ll be honest with you.  If the style doesn’t work, no big deal…add an accessory, change the shirt, add a belt…just try different combinations.  Most importantly, make sure you are trying a trend/style that fits your personality and body type.

No matter what, you should exude confidence in yourself, your style, and your attitude.  Once you have accomplished this, then and only then will you be a Top Trendsetter.  It’s all about YOU.
